An individual who laced sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his family member had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
